In April 2024, Debbie left a nineteen year career in technology to embark on a quest to find joy. She had reached the age where life choices begin to impact health. She looked out at a world and only saw doom on the horizon.
Travel has always been a major character in Debbie’s life. She visited all seven continents before turning eighteen, long before adventure tourism became mainstream. In 2018, Debbie began traveling the world solo, starting with Ireland and Iceland before buying a one way ticket to Australia. She observed the melting glaciers and crowded trails. She wondered how much of what she had grown up loving was already gone.
Debbie gifted herself a year of freedom and her number one bucket list adventure: to waddle behind an Emperor penguin in Antarctica. The desire to capture a frameable picture of a penguin led to Debbie investing in a telephoto lens and practicing bird photography daily for months. Photography became a reason to wake up for the sunrise, and to always look for the light.
And joy was found in the capturing of moments and beauty.
